Minion Kid Costume for Trick or Treat 2013

For the past two Halloween, I was the one who decided on what will be my son's costume for Trick or Treat. This time since he is already 2 years and 10 months old, I tried to get his preference as he might refuse to wear my chosen costume. I asked him if he wanted to be a Zombie as he is fond of watching me play Plants Vs. Zombies 2 or Minion as it is his favorite movie character. He replied without skipping a beat, "Minion" and so began my search for a minion costume.
I haven't seen any ready made costume on department stores so I resorted to online search. I found minion crochet beanies so I asked Kulay's Godmother, Ailyn to make me one.

Then I remembered that Kulay has a denim jumper so I only lacked long sleeved yellow shirt. I looked for plain ones at the department stores but most are big in size and only short sleeves are available. I was decided to let him wear his yellow polo shirt but then I found a Cotton On long sleeved yellow shirt and it is on sale, perfect!

So this was our Trick or Treat ensemble , i forgot about the black gloves though. Good thing my son wore it without a fuss.

We arrived late at Abreeza mall and most stores run out of candies already. I was happy that people were able to recognize Kulay's costume. They would point to him and say "look there's a minion". One kid even sang "ba ba banana" when he saw kulay. Kulay was very much game while trick or treating around the mall and would say on his own "Trick or Treat" and "Thank You" after. However he wants to eat the candies and would ask me to carry him when he is tired. He also demanded to ride the train and play with the slides.

My husband though injured accompanies us though he just sat down at Starbucks and waited for us to finish.

(L)This are what's left of his candies when we got home...he ate most of it while trick or treating.(R) Showing that his teeth are still okay.

I believe Kulay was happy with the experience and I still plan to join again next year with our little baby. I am already searching for sibling costumes LOLs

Trick or Treat 2012

I've been so looking forward to Trick or Treat but things didn't go as planned. I planned to attend 3 Trick or Treat events but we were only able to join one at Abreeza last Oct.28. We also planned to join SM Lanang Premier and an exclusive subdivision on the 31st but my son and husband both got sick.Maybe it's the universe trying to tell me that one Trick or Treat is enough!? :) Anyhoo we still had fun at the Abreeza event and got lots of candies. It was only me and my son without our official photographer  daddy-o because he had a wedding to cover. We met with Kulay's cousins so we weren't entirely alone. So here's my son's second Trick or Treat!

The Harry Potter Pose! Wingardium Leviosa!
He refused to wear the glasses and broke it.

Off to Hogwarts on Sunday

I am feeling giddy and really looking forward to Trick or Treat this Sunday! Halloween almost feels like Christmas with the festive atmosphere and the abundance of sweet treats. Ever since we joined last year's Trick or Treat at Abreeza, we got addicted. I spent months trying to come up with the perfect costume for my little boy. I was thinking of dressing him up as Little Chef, Stewie Griffin (Family Guy) and Dexter (Dexter's Laboratory). But I finally decided to dress him up as....wait for it....Harry Potter! I am such a big fan of the books and the movies so it's a natural choice. I learned that Abreeza will be having a Hollywood theme Halloween event which they call Hollyween so I guess this costume will fit right in. I got so excited when I decided on his costume that I immediately began to source out his props.
My friend Julienne made this beautiful crochet scarf

A Date with Go Nuts Donuts

Mike and I were lucky to be invited to the Go Nuts Donuts talk last August 2 at Go Nuts Abreeza branch. It was an opportunity to know  more about the company and the insanely delicious donuts. We actually had an opportunity before during the Abreeza Food Tour to get to know about the story behind this Proudly Pinoy company.

I am glad to learn that since their debut in Davao last June 2011 so much have happened.

1.They have launched new product lines such as the Pizza Donut which is now our favorite.  Sold at P36 each these pizza donuts comes in 4 variants, clockwise from top, Garlic and Cheese, Pepperoni, Barbeque and Hawaiian (not in pic)

They also have been producing the Durian Donut and will be launching more new products which are the Grab and Go and Pocket Pies.
  • Grab and Go are snacks wrapped in simple but individual packs which are perfect for baon. This will include Donut Cakes, Moist Cakes,Cookie Bites and Fudgy Loops.
  • Pocket Pies are flavorful meat fillings stuffed on a glazed(flaky) puff pastry cut.

2. They have opened another branch at lower gorund level of Gaisano Mall and have more plans of opening more. The Dabawenyos are very receptive of the donuts. Well who wouldn't? These donuts are extremely addictive!

The Gonuts Talk was a fun night of getting to know not just the donuts but the people behind them. We also had very fun games and raffles (sponsored by Pearl Farm Beach ResortAyala Malls,Bioessence Serenity Spa, and TOMS Philippines.) to which I sadly didn't win anything. It was also a chance to bond with fellow bloggers and unleash the camwhores in us as they have photobooth by Markdotdate!

Thank you so much Go Nuts for this fun filled night!

Kulay's 1st Halloween

I used to smirk at friends who get so excited about Halloween because I don't think it's worth celebrating since it is not a Filipino or Catholic Holiday. But now that I have a kid, I changed my mind and got rid of the smirk. Any excuse to dress up in costumes, eat treats and have FUN with friends and family should be enough reason to celebrate! Mike and I have thought months before of our son's costume and we immediately agreed on him wearing a Prisoner's outfit. We think that it's unique and cool! I even thought of this tagline...Orange but not pumpkin, Scary but not a  Ghost....One should fear the living and not the dead...
